Natural materials

We prefer to work with natural materials such as wool, cotton, linen, cashmere, and merino wool. We love the natural properties of these materials and prefer that what we wear closest to our body and surround ourselves with are as natural as possible. Also, we only work with certified materials, ensuring transparency in the supply chain.

Recycled materials

Since Skall Studio was founded in 2014, we have worked with conscious fashion, and we are always looking for new conscious material choices and techniques. In our AW22 collection we have upscaled our use of recycled materials such as recycled wool, recycled cashmere and as something new: recycled cotton.

Leftover fabrics

We always strive to keep materials in use as long as possible. When visiting our fabric in India, we love to go through the fabrics that others have rejected and use them in our collections. It gives us a great satisfaction to bring new life to these rejected materials.

Linen

Not only is linen a strong and breathable material. It also absorbs moisture well and has a cooling effect which makes it extremely comfortable during summer. We see linen as an earth-friendly fiber thanks to the Flax plant from which the fiber derives from. The Flax plant is an inherently eco-friendly crop as it is a sturdy and pest-resistant plant with low environmental impact. We love linen in its pure structure, without any dyeing and processing.

Merino wool

We only work with certified mulesing-free merino wool from Italy. Merino wool has a natural UV protection and is temperature adjustable and breathable. At the same time, the wool is biodegradable and recyclable as well as dirt-resistant and does not require washing that often, but rather some fresh air.

Recycled cashmere

We only work with recycled cashmere made in Italy. Our cashmere is made from the fibers from old cashmere sweaters which are color sorted at the factory and details are removed before it is processed into fibers. Finally, the fibers are made into new GRS certified yarn in a spinning mill in Italy.

Organic cotton

We only use 100 % organic and certified cotton, as we wish to support cotton cultivation without the use of harmful chemicals, synthetic fertilizers, or other soil additives, harmful to the environment and the people involved. Most of our cotton is GOTS certified which means that we have a 100 % transparent supply chain and that all people involved get a fair wage.

GOTS-certified

We are GOTS certified and the Indian factories where our cotton styles are made are GOTS certified as well. It provides us with a transparent supply chain which makes us able to trace and document each step in the production. From fibers to final product. Being a GOTS certified brand involves specific requirements towards chemistry, environment and social responsibility and third-party control is made on a regular basis. Learn more aboutthe GOTS requirements here.

Wool

Since the very first collection our signature knitwear has been made in Denmark. The wool comes from organic sheep, thriving in the beautiful nature of Funen at Hjelholt spinning mill. We love wool in its natural colours which is why most of our signature knitwear is undyed.Besides our Danish wool, we also work with recycled wool. Some of this wool is undyed as different shades of the recycled wool fibers are mixed to obtain colour.

Buttons made of nut shells

We use Corozo buttons made of nut shells on our outerwear and tailored styles as we believe in natural materials and prefer to support recycling – and because we believe every little detail matters.

SKALL Denim

Our Skall Denim in 100% organic and GOTS certified cotton is made in Turkey. Thanks to the Jeanologia laundry technology it is possible to map the specific use of water, CO2, chemicals, as well as worker impact for each batch that comes with an EIM score.

MWool®

Our outerwear in wool and most of our tailoring in wool are made in 100 % recycled wool from Italian textile supplier Manteco. Thanks to the MWool® technology by Manteco – a low-impact mechanical recycling process of pre- and post-consumer garments and scraps – colours are obtained without additional dyes and chemicals. As different shades of the recycled wool fibers are mixed to obtain colour, ensuring a lower impact. MWool® is GRS-certified. Read more here.
